DC Healthy Families
(Medicaid)

Medicaid is a joint federal/state health insurance program that provides health care coverage to low-income and/or disabled individuals and families. To be eligible for Medicaid in the District of Columbia, applicants must be residents of the District of Columbia and must meet non-financial and financial eligibility requirements (see table below).

  • Groups potentially eligibile for coverage:
    • Adults (age 21-64) without dependent children;
    • Pregnant women;
    • Parents/caretaker relatives; and
    • Children under the age of twenty-one (21)

Healthy DC
(Basic Health Plan)

If you don't qualify for Medicaid, you may be eligible for the Healthy DC plan. This is a simple, affordable option for Washington D.C. residents who need dependable coverage.

  • Residents must be:
    • Adults 21-64 years;
    • US Citizen or lawfully present;
    • Not eligible for Medicaid
    • Not eligibile for employer or other coverage; and
    • Have an annual income between 138% and 200% of the Federal Poverty Level. For more information, see the Income Eligibility for Healthy DC Plan table below.
